Albany boasts a variety of sporting facilities and has hosted several different athletic events. The Times Union Center arena accommodates basketball, hockey, arena football, wrestling, and roller derby. The Albany Capital Center will have the capacity to host fencing, boxing, badminton and much more.
Albany County has over ten colleges and universities, including University at Albany, Siena College and the College of Saint Rose. High School Facilities, Community Facilities, and even our city streets have been host to great athletic events like the Freihofer’s Run for Women.
Albany Capital Center
Operated by SMG, the Albany Capital Center is a beautiful glass structure that can accommodate 10 to 5,000 people. Housing 22,500 square feet of ballroom/exhibit space (26′ ceiling height), 6 meeting rooms with 9,200 square feet of space, and 13,500 square feet of pre-function space with dedicated multi-purpose space, junior ballroom, and meeting/banquet space – all fully divisible – this facility will meet the needs of a wide range of users; international, national, and regional.
Empire State Plaza Convention Center
The Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza is the centerpiece of Albany. Located in the heart of the Capital City of New York State, the two billion dollar government complex serves as Albany’s most recognizable public attraction, as well as its premier meeting, convention and performing arts facility.
Times Union Center
A multi-purpose facility with an adaptable seating capacity of 6,000 to 17,500. Home to the AFL team the Albany Empire and the Siena Saints MAAC basketball team, the Times Union Center is a regular host to premier NCAA events. Times Union Center has been a part of history in the sporting world as well. The #1 moment in WWE RAW history took place at the arena, 2002 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships when Cael Sanderson completed his career undefeated, the 2003 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball East Regionals when Syracuse sealed their spot in the Final Four, and many more!
University at Albany
The University at Albany has a variety of sports facilities that can accommodate many sporting events like lacrosse, football, basketball and more. The facilities are state of the art and are appropriately equipped to fulfill the needs of sporting games and tournaments. The facilities are handicapped accessible and parking is available.
