Buffalo has become a hot spot in recent years for college and amateur athletic tournaments, from USA Hockey to the first and second rounds of NCAA men’s basketball. Even horseshoe pitchers, lacrosse players, bowlers, swimmers and divers have found Buffalo to be their home away from home. The array of amenities and close proximity to hotels, restaurants and entertainment, make our facilities one that coaches and parents enjoy traveling to. We’ve got game!
The pool at ECC Burt Flickinger Athletic Center and at Alumni Arena at the State University of New York at Buffalo have hosted multiple tournaments and championship meets. Buffalo has become a hub for swim meets in the Northeast.
Buffalo has had a long standing tradition of softball in the community and therefore, many of the towns have developed multiple diamond complexes. The Amherst Audubon Recreation Complex, The Nike Base in Hamburg and Sunshine Park in West Seneca each lend themselves well for larger tournaments. The Amherst Audubon Recreation Complex specifically is located adjacent to the Northtown Center, allowing for a large indoor space for events if needed.
Buffalo is fortunate to have two premier hockey facilities in town. The Northtown Center at Amherst is one of the largest ice arenas in New York State, featuring 3 NHL sized rinks and 1 Olympic sized. This facility hosts multiple hockey tournaments throughout the year, including the iconic USA Hockey National Championships. Buffalo also is home to one of the country’s most premier hockey facilities, the HARBORCENTER. The HARBORCENTER, a 2 NHL rink facility is located in the Downtown core that lies adjacent to Key Bank Center and Canalside. This premier facility includes a performance training facility, restaurant, hotel and retail all under one roof.
Erie County has a strong base of youth soccer athletes which continues to grow each year. To accommodate them we have many indoor and outdoor venues located throughout our community. Some of the larger multi-field outdoor venues are the Amherst Soccer Fields, West Seneca Soccer Complex and Clarence Soccer Fields and The Nike Base in Hamburg. They are each quality venues and host local and regional events on an annual basis.
